Tools that run on your machine

XChat can offer the model a set of local tools and run them itself: reading and writing files, searching a project, git status and diffs, running Python, and system information. The panel is built into the app — it does not connect to external MCP servers — and each tool can be switched on or off there.

Every model, one Hub

The Hub lists 121 providers and 423 models to choose from — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, Mistral, DeepSeek and more. Add a key, refresh, and chat.

Cloud providers use your own API key and nothing else. Local models need no key at all: XChat probes your machine for Ollama, and its built-in engine can run a model without any provider behind it.
